Dear Members,
Just some feedback from the Chenin Blanc
presentation for the German journalist Michael Ritter, held at 96 Winery
Road.
The attendees and the wines they served (in
order) as follows:
Firstly as it was Friday and we arrived as
the sun was heading North across the western sky, it seemed appropriate
to have a couple of glasses of Villiera Brut Monroe, in fact our
journalist had a pint of draft beer (old German tradition?)
Then off we went to the private dining room (red wine cellar) and
ordered platters of the best matched starters at 96, Scallops wrapped in
pancetta with an orange sauce, camembert parcels, crispy pork belly
strips and sweet potato with a spicy blatjang.
In the meantime Erik from “Mooi Bly” in Paarl presented his fresh and
fruity Chenin, followed by the Riebeeck Cellars Chenin under Zakkies
watchful eye. Then the Raats “original” and a presentation from Bruwer,
and the only lady of the evening Marelise from Beaumont (Sebastion she’s
much prettier than you was the consensus) then Kanu Chenin and the Petit
Chenin followed by Villiera and Kleine Zalze, and finally the Simonsig multi
award winning value, superquaffer Chenin and we were only half way!
|
Main courses were ordered and Bruwer
for one felt that Prime Rib was the perfect match!!!! Much
lively conversation, a little debate and a fine line up of great
wines 12 of
the 21 being under screw-cap and no cork taint on the rest!
We received our main courses and proceeded
to serve, in pairs, the following;-
|
Riebeeck Reserve
Villiera Cellar Door |
Fleur du Cap
Kleine Zalze Barrel Ferment |
Ken Forrester Barrel Ferment
Beaumont Hope Marguerite |
Mulderbosch Vloek op Hout
Raats Barrel |
Simonsig Chenin avec Chene
Kanu KCB |
All in all a marathon evening, a
great forum for Chenin and an impressive array of wines and
producers.
Sincere thanks to all who sent
wines, could make the time to be there and you should know that
we really made a great Chenin Impression.
Kind regards and keep it cooking!
